High-Speed Mountain Gates Questions

Every question we get asked about high-speed mountain gates, answered straight.

Questions

How It Works

  • Will an automatic gate work on a steep or uneven driveway?

Yes, but the slope and clearance determine which gate type fits. A steep approach often rules out a swing gate, a cantilever slide gate rolls on posts set back from the opening and has no clearance conflict with the grade. The installer confirms the right configuration before ordering hardware.

  • What happens if I install a standard opener instead of a high-cycle operator?

A residential opener rated for 15 to 20 daily cycles will overheat and fail quickly on a high-use mountain entry. The motor is also not sized for the extra torque a sloped driveway creates. Replacing a burned-out opener costs more than specifying the right one from the start.

  • Can the gate still open during a power outage or wildfire evacuation?

Yes. Every system includes a manual release for hand operation. Properties with unreliable grid power can add a solar array with deep-cycle battery backup. A cellular relay also lets you trigger the gate remotely before you reach the entrance.

  • Do I need a full gate replacement or just an opener?

If the existing frame is solid and the gate moves cleanly, adding an operator may be enough. If the gate sags, drags, or is poorly balanced, replacing it first protects the new motor from unnecessary load. The installer checks frame condition and alignment before recommending either path.

  • What access control options are available for a remote property?

Keypad, remote transmitter, vehicle loop detector, and cellular relay are all available. Cellular relay works where there is no broadband signal at the gate. All controls are wired to the control board during the same installation visit.

  • Are there safety requirements for an automatic gate?

Yes. UL 325 sets the standard for automatic gate operators in the US. It requires photo eye sensors, a manual release, and specific entrapment protection. Every install our partners complete is tested against these requirements before sign-off.
