Automatic Gate Installation Questions

A complete install covers site grading, post setting, gate hardware, electrical rough-in, motor mounting, keypad and remote pairing, and a final cycle test. Battery backup and cellular access control are added during the electrical stage when the site requires them.

Most installations that involve new posts, electrical work, or changes to the property boundary require a local permit. What applies to your specific site and scope is confirmed before work begins.

A gate without battery reserve will not operate during grid outages. In the Foothills, mountain storms and wildfire-related power cuts can leave the gate stuck closed or open for hours. Retrofitting backup power after installation costs more than including it in the original electrical rough-in.

Lifespan depends on gate weight, daily cycle count, weather exposure, and whether the motor was correctly sized at install. A well-matched system with routine maintenance can run for many years without major component replacement.

Sloped or uneven terrain often requires grading before posts can be set plumb. Wider mountain estate openings increase gate weight and affect motor sizing. Off-grid locations may need solar with deep-cycle battery backup instead of a standard grid connection.

Yes. Every installation includes a manual release that lets you open the gate by hand when power is out or the operator is not responding. The installer confirms the release operates correctly during the final cycle test.
